Backstreet Boys Wild Bucks' Night

Take 40 caught up with Brian and Howie from the Backstreet Boys recently while they were in the country for their tour, and found out a bit about ex-BSB Kevin Richardson's buck's night!

Even though Kevin has left the band, the boys say they still keep in touch. Howie even went along for his spur of the moment bachelor party recently!

"Poor guy..." Howie said. "We were on tour at the time, I think we were in Canada... and supposedly AJ told him he was going to set up this whole bachelor thing for him... and unfortunately he thought about himself at the last minute and ducked out... so the poor guy really didn't truly have a major bachelor party..."

But Howie and some friends saved the day. "His security guard (Keith McGuffy) was one of his good friends..." Howie continued, "and he was... out with us at that time... so he actually came out... it was a good time.. but poor guy - if I had have known better I would've tried to put it together myself."

"He actually came to mine just recently... and I think he saw what a real bachelor party was all about!" Howie said his buck's night was a big one, although he couldn't remember much about it!

Meanwhile Brian and his wife spent some time on Bondi Beach during their visit to Australia, with their son Bailey. They gave little Bailey an Aussie experience, making him taste Vegemite and wear speedos!

BSB rocks the night away

PETALING JAYA: Even the possibility of a huge storm couldn't stop the 10,000 strong crowd from showing up at Sunway Surf Beach at the Sunway Lagoon Theme Park last night to catch American boyband Backstreet Boys live.

Barely an hour before the concert was due to start, thunder and rain threatened to dampen the atmosphere at the concert, the band's first concert in Malaysia since the Force of Nature Tsunami Relief Concert in 2004.

“The skies are clear, and we are here ... Backstreet's back!” shouted McLean as he thanked the crowd for showing up.

The band members – Brian Littrell, AJ McLean, Nick Carter and Howie Dorough – had the crowd eating out of their hands throughout the one and a half hour concert, belting out almost 30 songs.

The Backstreet Boys were formed in 1993 and have so far released six studio albums, which the crowd were obviously familiar with, if their shrieks and screams were anything to go by. At times, during songs such as I Want It That Way and Incomplete, the band members even paused because the crowd was singing louder than them.

The Backstreet Boys made several costume changes throughout their performance, but it was when they put on their trademark fedora hat, made popular from the music video of their 1997 hit song As Long As You Love Me that the crowd went wild.

This was also the first time Malaysians were seeing the band perform live as a quartet as member Kevin Richardson left the group last year.

The band only sang one song for their encore but gave such a heart-warming performance that it was enough to placate the crowd.

The Star had been the official newspaper for the Kuala Lumpur leg of the Backstreet Boys Unbreakable World Tour.

GREETINGS FROM THE UNBREAKABLE TOUR!!!!

Hey Guys!!! Just wanted to drop in and say 'what's up!!!" to everyone. Sorry I have been so busy with putting together the new tour that I haven't had a chance to post any recent blogs. We just got through the first few shows of the tour in Japan, Australia and now we are in South East Asia. It was really crazy rehearsing for this tour. The guys and I had put everything we had into it and were rehearsing right up to the few hours before our first show at the Tokyo Dome. Thankfully everything went really great. We got a chance to do some great shopping in Japan in between the shows. They also had really cool natural hot springs at our hotel that were awesome to go into especially when the air outside was pretty chilly. It was pretty cold in Japan so it was nice to get into the 80 degree weather in Australia. We had a chance to visit Steve Irwin's zoo while we were there and actually got to hold and feed the animals. It was super cool to hold a koala bear - which they usually never let you do that. I also have a cousin in Sydney so it was really nice to catch up with her and her husband. They took Leigh and I out to Bondi Beach and we had dinner near by in Bronte Beach. Leigh was out here with me for Japan and Australia. We had alot of fun sightseeing - always trying to make the most of our time in each city. The tour all been alot of fun so far and everyone seems to be having a good time. We've gone out a few nights and sometimes we just hang out at the hotels. With all the flying though we've all had some serious jetlag. Anyway, I will try to post new blogs as much as I can and will also be posting more videos and pictures. I just got two new cameras - just need to figure out how to download everything. We also just launched the new bsb fanclub - which looks amazing. All the guys are really excited about it and it gets updated a bunch so check it out. Looking forward to seeing everyone out on the road!!!!

Best wishes, Howie

Fans of Backstreet Boys in for a spectacular audio and visual feast

Rest assured The Backstreet Boys’ concert tonight will be an excellent affair.

According to production manager Andrew Warren, the boys themselves had promised a fantastic show.

“Fans will not be short-changed, and definitely will not go home disappointed,” he told The Star.

In fact, the stage is said to be the biggest stage ever to be set up at the venue (Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach).

Measuring 60ft x 50ft, such a big stage is usually conceptualised for stadiums, said Warren.

“It is a huge production for Sunway itself, too,” he said. “This is definitely something very new and big, and the venue sponsor has definitely been very supportive and helpful.

“We have also drained out the surf pool for the audience. That will serve as the floor.”

There will be huge projection screens on stage showing images and playback videos of the boys.

Warren said the group, comprising Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, A.J. McLean and Nick Carter, had prior to the show insisted on only world-class high-tech sound systems and lighting being used.

“The boys insisted and reminded us to use only the best lighting and sound equipment for the concert. We have constructed everything in accordance with their request and there is definitely very heavy lighting coupled with the best sounds,” he said.

Warren said production work started on Saturday evening involving some 50 crew members.

The concert tonight is part of The Backstreet Boys’ Unbreakable World Tour 2008.

The show starts at 8pm. Tickets are available at Sunway Lagoon Ticketing Counters. Sunway Lagoon Theme Park is the official venue. The Star is the official newspaper.

BSB all set to make waves

PETALING JAYA: The Backstreet Boys’ concert here is only a day away.

Happening tomorrow evening at the Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach, the boys are set to make waves with a smashing comeback concert.
The show here is part of the foursome’s Unbreakable World Tour 2008, which follows the successful release of their sixth album last October.

Artiste World executive director Arianna Teoh said the concert is slated to be one of the best for the group, even without former band mate Kevin Richardson, who left the group two years ago to pursue other interests.

“The show will be a walk down memory lane as well as a ‘live’ insight to what the album (Unbreakable) is all about,” Teoh said.
“There will be perfectly choreographed dance moves and it will definitely be a treat for all the aficionados. To watch these guys perform live will be an opportunity that comes only once in a long while,” she added.

Critics have described the latest album as pure pop pleasure. It is said to include various music styles, combining their earlier mid-90s R&B tunes with newer guitar-driven pop/rock sounds.

The Backstreet Boys, or more popularly known as BSB, will be arriving with a 26-person entourage, which includes a band and dancers.

The group, comprising Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, A.J McLean and Nick Carter, had earlier said that they were looking forward to meeting their Malaysian fans again. They last performed here at a tsunami charity concert a few years ago. The show starts at 8pm.

For ticketing details call 03-7711-5000 or 03-5639-0000. Tickets are also available at Sunway Lagoon’s Ticketing Counters (Surf Beach and Main Entrance).
The concert is jointly organised by Artiste World and Galaxy Group. Sunway Lagoon Theme Park is the official venue. Other sponsors include Channel [V], Hitz FM and Mix FM. The Star is the official newspaper.

They're back in Brisbane but they are boys in name only.

Tomorrow night at Boondall's Entertainment Centre, international pop sensations the Backstreet Boys will perform their first of three Australian concerts with special guest and Delta Goodrem's squeeze, Brian McFadden.

Touring the world to promote latest album Unbreakable, the boys have a brand new look, sound and stage show set to knock the hysterical socks off the hoardes of female fans anticipated to arrive.

"We're thrilled to be coming back to Australia," says Nick Carter, "one of our very favourite places."

Fellow group memeber AJ McLean agrees, "We honestly can't wait."

"We've got a brand new show for the Unbreakable tour so we're excited about performing the new songs for the first time and introducing those in concert."

BSB observers will be aware of the new tact the group has taken since their epic pop ballads swept teens off their feet when they exploded onto the charts into 1997.

In the 11 years since the release of their eponymous first album, the Backstreet Boys have notched up more than 75 million album sales worldwide and have produced hits such as Quit Playing Games (with My Heart), As Long You Love Me and Everybody (Backstreet's Back).

The group took a three-year hiatus from 2002 to 2005 to return with a very successful world tour of their album Never Gone before the amiciable loss of fifth BSB Keven Richardson in 2006.

The remaining four then set about recording their new material, the tone of which, audible in their latest single Inconsolable, reflects the growing maturity of the group members and that of their fanbase.

"Our music has evolved with our fans," says Howie Dorough.

"With each album we've had the opportunity to grow more mature, lyrically and vocally.

"We've also had the chance to educate ourselves about the business, about artistry and becoming real musicians.

"I hope that shows with each step we've taken."
